This photographic workshop is held at Wildwood Wildlife Park in Kent. If photographing animals is your hobby, then this venue is for you. Badgers here are fed daily at 3.30 pm, therefore guaranteeing photo opportunities. Slightly underexpose your shots and they will appear to have been shot at dusk. There is even a view of the inside of their sett. The photographs of the badgers are absolutely stunning.
The animals are housed in large natural enclosures that are tailor-made for taking some fantastic photos. Photographers On Safari have arranged for privileged access, allowing you to go inside enclosures not open to the general public. You will be able to take stunning pictures with no unsightly barriers or fences obscuring your view.
The day begins with a short tutorial on photography, giving an insight into the techniques used for wildlife photography. Feel free, however, to ask as many questions as you like, on a one to one basis, throughout the day regarding these techniques. General and/or individual advice will be given each time we choose a new subject. Group numbers will be strictly limited to six clients so that everybody gets a great position.
Their large compound is built around a pond in mature natural woodland. There are purpose built slots in the fence allowing for great photos of these normally shy animals. 2009 should also see the construction of a new hide specifically for privileged photographic purposes.
We unlikely to be allowed inside the Pine Marten enclosure during 2009. The Pine Marten that we regularly photograph is the centre of an important breeding program. It is believed that they have successfully mated (not common in captivity) and we must keep away from this area. We will definitely have access to the Lynx enclosure. There are two lynx here in a sizeable enclosure with mature trees and undergrowth for those all important natural backgrounds
We have permission to actually go inside these enclosures with our subjects. Both enclosures are in mature woodland and great shots are possible. Both subjects will be encouraged into the best areas by their keepers.
Many other animals are resident here. Different species will present themselves regularly as we move between our chosen subjects, but we cannot guarantee you will be able to photograph each and every one of them. We will photograph what we can. The Red Deer almost invariably provide some great photo opportunities.
We have come to a new arrangement with Wildwood Wildlife Park for 2009. We will have access to some of the behind the scenes areas of the park (water voles' breeding area), plus to some of the exhibits that it has not previously been possible to photograph. We will not necessarily have access to all five of the above, but certainly a selection from them. Once again they will be in a position or set up where sympathetic backgrounds are achieved.
